Crowded Out
WRITER | DIRECTOR | PRODUCER | EDITOR | COMPOSER
My newest short film, and a herculean undertaking in ways I never thought possible.
Not having been involved in many car-centric shoots beforehand, this was for certain my trial by fire. It all may sound simple and contained on the outset, but what I was looking to accomplish (on a VERY micro budget) pushed me to my limits as both a producer and director.
No LED volumes here. No green screen. All is practically shot both inside and outside of a car on the streets of Brooklyn over three intense nights.
So much innovation and research were involved in every aspect of this film. Camera mounts, the camera itself, image stabilized lenses, lighting placement, battery length and outputs, wireless accessibility, clean sound, and, of course, safety.
Once the war was fought and won, I found myself in the edit doubling and tripling in roles. I painted out quite a few things in After Effects, and there was a lot of dead pixel clean up. Eventually, I also composed and arranged the score and sound design using Logic Pro.
At the end of the day, I'm so proud of how it all came out in the wash!
The movie premiered in Paris at L'Étrange Festival, and it's currently enjoying a healthy festival run!
